Evil Spirits are the most common enemies encountered in the video game adoption of the Haunted Mansion and are the first to be introduced.

Overview[]

The Evil Spirits are ghosts whose essence has been partially drained and corrupted by the sorcerer Atticus Thorn, making them into his minions who attack other ghosts and mortals at his behest.

This enemy appears in every single room in the mansion (except both upstairs and downstairs hallways) and are regarded as relatively weak, but when acting together, they have the potential to overwhelm Zeke if they surround him. They levitate close to the ground and can fly slightly quicker than the main character. They are notorious for chasing the hero assiduously throughout the mansion and will not stop until either Zeke leaves the room or if they dig their sharp claws into him. The most efficient way to stop them is to just fight them off until they shrivel up and disappear which won't take long thanks to their low health. Their weaknesses are bright lights and shots from the beacon, and when the lights in a room are on, which will force them to hide. As Zeke progresses further into the mansion, the Evil Spirits will become stronger and more resistant to damage but can still be easily defeated with upgraded beacon shots, which come from soul gems from the friendly ghosts.

When the lights are turned on, the Evil Spirits weaken into Shriveled Souls and are forced to hide in various objects in the rooms. Zeke has to inspect the objects to find them and use the Beacon to draw them in. Once placed in the Beacon, the souls will be cured of their corruption, returning them to their former good selves.

Description[]

The evil spirits are floating skeleton-like ghosts with claw like hands and have no feet, instead their lower bodies flows in the air into a short swirling tail. They are dressed in what appear to be a black and grey mourning attire. Their stronger versions are the same, except that they have purple skin and red eyes.
