Lonesome manor

Lonesome Manor is a haunted mansion adaptation found in the 2010 video-game Epic Mickey

Description[]

Lonesome Manor is a mansion which is found in the Wasteland; a twisted Disneyland which was created by the wizard Yen Sid to be a home for forgotten and unused cartoon characters.

As the Wasteland was made to reflect the Disney Parks, Lonesome Manor serves as the Wasteland's counter-part to the Haunted Mansion. It is located in Bog Easy, an area which is inspired by the combination of New Orleans Square with its neighbour, "land", Critter Country. Aesthetically it is a hybrid of the original mansion, the WDW mansion, and Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris.

Lonesome Manor seemingly gets its name from being the home to the Lonesome Ghosts, a group of characters who appeared in classic Disney cartoons only to be forgotten and left in the Wasteland.

History[]

Constance Hatchaway was once the Lady of Lonesome Manor, whether this is the mainstream Constance or perhaps a forgotten counterpart of her is unknown. The Wastelanders, such as detective Horace Horsecollar, suspected Constance of having murdered all of her husbands, but could not prove a thing. However, when Constance left the Manor, she left her hatchet behind in the attic, later to be found by Mickey Mouse, proving her guilt. Based off of portraits found in the Stretching Room, it is possible that her Wasteland husbands were in-fact the Singing Busts from the original ride.

At some point in time, the numerous Lonesome Ghosts (led by Ian, Gabriel and Screeching Sam) claimed the Manor and began to inhabit it. They were however thrown out of the Mansion by the sentient Organ when it suddenly turned mad because of the villainous Shadow Blot's corrupting influence and the equally villainous Mad Doctor seizing the Attic as his laboratory and headquarters. While many residents of the Manor left during this chaos, Madame Leona, the Wasteland counterpart to Leota, remained behind in the Library.

Areas[]

  • The Foyer:
  • The Stretching Room: Like in the real life attraction, the Stretching Room is used as an elevator to access different floors of Lonesome Manor.
  • The Library: The home of Madame Leona which is filled with shelves of books as-well as many portraits belonging to the madame.
  • The Ballroom: This chamber held the massive sentient pipe organ.
  • The Attic: This is where the Mad Doctor made his laboratory.

Projector Screens[]

In this video-game, projections of Disney cartoons exist as physical spaces which animatronics and cartoon characters can enter to short-cut through space-time. In Lonesome Manor the following cartoon projections can be found.

  • Lonesome Ghosts (1937)
  • The Mad Doctor (1933)
  • The Haunted House (1929)

Haunted Mansion Tributes[]

  • Lonesome Manor is featured in the video game Epic Mickey. Its design is an amalgamation of the Disneyland Mansion, the Walt Disney World/Tokyo Disneyland Mansion, and Phantom Manor.
  • The Lonesome Ghosts were featured in deleted Ken Anderson scripts for the Haunted Mansion.
  • The Headless Horseman, who also featured in early Ken Anderson scripts, appears in a portrait.
  • The Stretching Room sequence features a portrait of an elderly Constance Hatchaway can be spotted with her sitting atop a tombstone dedicated to the Singing Busts who are all listed by name on the tombstone and who look up at her.
  • A portrait of the Mariner can be seen, looking more similar to Captain Gore than the original.
  • A portrait mirroring the Quicksand Men is in the stretching room as well, with these men being shown to be safari men.
  • A portrait of the Disney villain Chernabog from the Night on Bald Mountain segment of Fantasia (1940) can be found. The flying ghosts seen after the attic sequence in the mainstream attraction is nicknamed, "The Night on Bald Mountain" due to the transparent flying ghosts being inspired by those of the film.
  • In Epic Mickey 2, busts of the Hitchhiking Ghosts and the Bride can be seen in a Bog Easy graveyard looking out to Lonesome Manor.

Trivia[]

  • It is possible that Constance was mistress of the manor during the forty years between the first sketches of a Black Widow character by Marc Davis and her actual appearance in the attraction.
